The largest solar boat

10:29
While the representatives of 190 countries at a conference in Cancun are trying to solve the problem of global warming, in the Gulf of Mexico has entered the largest solar boat in the world. The saying is true: " Where there's a Will, there's a way."

31 meters long and 15 meters wide motor boat powers an electric voltage that was collected using 500 square meters of solar panels. About 20 kW is sufficient for this solar boat to reach a speed of 8 knots (15km / h), and its 38,000 photo cells have efficiency of 22%, so you can generate 103.4 kW solar power.

Raphael Domian, Swiss, and Gerard d'Avovilj, a Frenchman, are responsible for this achievement and believe that it will become the fastest boat that crossed the planet. "Sun Power" weights 60 tons and it's built in Kiel, Germany. The project has cost 16 million euros.

"We have forgotten how this transport can be clean, ships are the most commonly used as a means of transporting goods, and total emissions carbon dioxide participates 6%, which is twice as much as aviation transportation," said Team Planet Solara.
